John C. Bily Brings Extensive Financial Planning and Management Experience In Medical Device/Ophthalmic Sector

STAAR Surgical Company (Nasdaq: STAA) today announced that John C. Bily (54) has been named Chief Financial Officer of the Company, effective January 3, 2002. He succeeds John S. Santos, who was named Vice President Corporate Planning and Development, a special project role with responsibilities for overseeing the implementation of the current strategy to transform the business.

Bily brings more than 20 years experience in financial planning, global operations and manufacturing in the pharmaceutical and medical device industries with extensive experience in the ophthalmic sector. Most recently he was Vice President and Controller, Worldwide Operations for Allergan, Inc. Bily also served in key financial positions for Coopervision Surgical and American Hospital Supply Corporation/ Baxter International. He earned his MBA in Finance/Accounting from Arizona State University and a B.A. degree from the University of Dallas. Bily also served in the United States Air Force
